Gdańsk University of Technology (Faculty of Management and Economics) announces TIG2024 Conference on Technology, Innovation and Growth. The conference will take place on 23-24 May, 2024 in Gdańsk, Poland - a beautiful, historic city by the Baltic Sea and a birthplace of the Solidarity movement.

We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions related to the economic role of innovation and technological progress (with a particular focus on automation, digitalisation and AI). Submission (full paper or extended abstract) is open until February 29, 2024. Call for Papers (CfP-PDF)

TIG2024 conference will provide a forum for economists working in the field of economics of innovation / international economics / economic growth / industrial organisation and related fields to present their ongoing research on the economic role of innovation and technological progress. The conference will also summarize the outcomes of the project “Technological specialization and productivity divergence in the age of digitalisation, automation and AI”, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland (PI: Aleksandra Parteka).

Conference topics include (but are not limited to):

  • the recent trends in the development of technological knowledge
  • the effects of digital technologies on productivity and economic growth
  • technology creation/technology adoption patterns across countries/regions/firms
  • technology vs. inequality and income/wealth distribution
  • labour market effects of automation, digitalisation and AI (employment, wages, skills, tasks)
  • the quantification of innovation and digital progress (novel methodology and data)
  • spatial distribution of innovation/patenting activity; technological specialisation/concentration
  • technology/innovation/AI in economic growth models

Submission and important dates

  • We invite the submission of full working papers or extended abstracts. Full paper submissions will have priority in the selection process.
  • Both empirical and theoretical contributions are welcome.

  • Submission is open until March 5, 2024
  • Notification: March 15, 2024
  • Registration: until April 15,  2024
