IPTS is looking for Economists to join its Digital Economy research programme.
The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Seville (Spain) is a research institute of the European Commission. The Information Society Unit at IPTS, with about 40 staff, carries out research in support of EU information society policies, in particular the Digital Agenda and Innovation Union. More information can be found at:
The Digital Economy research programme in that unit currently has 5 economists and is seeking to recruit 3 additional economists for policy-focused quantitative economic research work, 2 at post-doc level (cat GH30) and one at assistant professor level (cat GH40).
The Digital Economy programme aims to quantify the economic impact of digital information processing and communication technologies (ICT). We currently run projects on international online trade, the economics of media copyright in the Digital Single Market, the impact of ICT on consumer welfare and will start soon a project on the economics of privacy. Other projects are likely to be added. The work is often at the cutting edge of economic research and technological innovation. We invest in the acquisition of large databases that are well-suited for quantitative research work. Though our clients are primarily EU policy makers, we value academic publication of our work.
We are looking for enthusiastic research economists with a robust background in quantitative economic techniques, including applied industrial organisation theories, micro-economic modelling and econometrics. Research experience and interests in any areas related to internet economics would be an advantage. A forward-looking mindset and a capacity to think out-of-the-box, an active interest in information society policy issues and the ability to translate research findings into relevant messages for policy makers would constitute important assets.
Candidates must hold a PhD in economics. Very good written and spoken English is essential.
