The Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for one or more positions as Full Professor/Professor with special responsibilities in Economics. The Department of Economics has a strong international research profile and a vibrant and dynamic research and teaching environment. The new Professor(s) is/are expected to contribute actively to this.

The position(s) is/are available from September 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

A. Full Professorship:

Qualifications:

To be qualified for the position the applicant should have:

• A high degree of original academic production at an international level, which documents that the applicant has contributed to developing the field of Economics 
• Strong teaching qualifications
• Management experience in relation to research and teaching

 

Job description:

General duties attached to the position as Full Professor are:

• Research within the field of Economics
• Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD students
• Administrative tasks related to the position as Full Professor
• Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society
• Research and teaching management
• Fundraising

Conditions of employment:

The professorship is a tenured position. Terms of appointment and payment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary is currently DKK 521,102 (EUR 70.094 app.) plus an annual supplement of DKK 51,377 (EUR 6,910 app.). In addition to the salary paid directly to you, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1% of your salary. Negotiation for additional supplements will be possible. A special tax scheme is offered to researchers recruited abroad, see ism.ku.dk/taxes/ 

B. Professorship with Special Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

To be qualified for the position the applicant should have:

A documented original academic production at international level within the field of Economics,
• The potential to continue the development of the field of Economics
• Strong teaching qualifications • Management experience in relation to research and teaching 

Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s qualifications to perform the special responsibility or responsibilities associated with the position.

General duties attached to the position as Professor with Special Responsibilities are:

• Research within the field of Economics
• Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD students
• Administrative tasks related to the position as Professor with Special Responsibilities
• Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society
• Research and teaching management
• Fundraising

In addition to these general duties, the position includes special responsibilities for further strengthening of the relationship between research and teaching at the department.

The position is offered as a 5-year professorship with special responsibilities, with the possibility of an extension for up to 3 years. On expiry of the p rofessorship period, the appointee is offered employment and remuneration as Associate Professor. Salary and conditions of employment as Professor with Special Responsibilities will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary is currently DKK 521.102 (EUR 70.094 app.). Applications must be in English and must include the following information and documentation:

• A full CV, including name, address, telephone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background, including a record of research and international
research cooperation.

• A complete and numbered list of publications. The publications enclosed in the application – maximum 10 - that the applicant would like the assessment committee to consider should be marked with an asterisk (*).

• Documentation of experience with managing research and/or teaching.

• Documentation of the ability to disseminate information to and share knowledge with society at large.

If publications marked by an asterisk (*) are the result of joint work, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual publication must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed as well.

• The applicant should enclose a short paper (2 pages) outlining how (s)he envisions the strengthening of the relationship between research and teaching at the department

 

Assessment of applicants - both Full Professor and Professor with Special Responsibilities:

After the deadline of the application period, an assessment committee will be formed. Applicants will be informed of the composition of the committee. The assessment of applicants will primarily consider the level of research. Teaching, managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants will also be considered. When the committee’s evaluation is available, each applicant will receive the part of the assessment that relates to him-/herself. As part of the appointment process interviews may be held.
