The School of Economics and Finance of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is hosting the 3rd annual workshop for PhD & post-doctoral students. The workshop is organised by QMUL PhD students and aims to bring together researchers from all areas of Economics and Finance to create a stimulating environment for participants to discuss pressing issues in their fields and receive valuable feedback on their work.

This year the two-day workshop will be a virtual conference consisting of a mix of parallel and plenary sessions covering the following broad research-fields: Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Finance, Theoretical Microeconomics, and Applied Microeconomics. This year, the conference features keynote speeches by Philippe Aghion (London School of Economics) and Alex Edmans (London Business School).

Presentations (approx. 30 minutes) will be followed by a discussion led by a PhD student (approx. 15 minutes). Authors of selected papers might be asked to also discuss a paper related to their field of research. The scientific committee, consisting of QMUL PhD students and faculty members, will select two/three papers that will be awarded the Best Paper Acknowledgement. These papers will be presented in plenary sessions and discussed by a faculty member expert in that field.

Keynote speakers:
Professor Philippe Aghion (LSE) - Professor of Economics at the LSE, INSEAD, and College de France.

Professor Alex Edmans (LBS) - Professor of Finance at the LBS and Academic Director at the CCG.

Submissions

PhD and Post-doctoral students interested in participating should send an extended abstract or a full paper by the 20th March 2021 (midnight, GMT) clearly indicating the field code covered by their research to the following email address: eco-phdWorkshop@qmul.ac.uk. Successful applicants will be notified by the 20th April 2021.

Additional Information

Selected authors are expected to participate in the entire two-day workshop. If restrictions related to the current pandemic are relaxed sufficiently by the time of the conference the format might be adjusted to a blended conference, where some participants can give their talk in person. In that case, accommodation for the night of the 27th will be offered by Queen Mary University of London to in-person attendees.
