The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is seeking original, unpublished papers on water management policy in agriculture for achieving food and water security under climate change in Asia. The focus is on addressing policy gaps required to address associated institutional, socioeconomic, and financial constraints. Selected papers will be featured during an ADBI conference in October 2022 that will bring together agricultural and water ministries, farming organizations, and policy researchers. They will also be considered for inclusion and open access in a special issue of the International Journal of Water Resources Development.

Paper topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Water resource management challenges in agriculture and its impacts on food security under climate change
  • Alternative water management practices relevant for water-scarce and water-abundant agricultural settings
  • The role of agricultural technologies in enhancing water use efficiency in agriculture and the potential for upscaling water-saving technologies
  • Systematic reconsideration of water management in agriculture through technologies and policy
  • Technological and institutional developments that contribute to food and water security, including improved water management technology in agriculture
  • The implications of water management in agriculture from demand- and supply-side perspectives
  • Economic instruments’ potential to improve water management, especially in the case of groundwater use for irrigation
  • Educating and engaging multiple stakeholders to improve water use efficiency in agriculture through appropriate management in water delivery systems, technology, and policy
