We are pleased to announce the conference “Tracking Innovation Trajectories in the Complex Economy. Network analysis and big data for risk mitigation” that will be held in Turin (Italy)on October 7-9, 2019. The event is promoted by CEST – Centre for Excellence and Transdisciplinary Studies and supported by the Young Scholar Initiative of the Institute of New Economic Thinking (INET), Despina – Big Data Lab @ the University of Turin, and the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE), and the Polytechnic of Turin.

This workshop aims at investigating how scientifically-sounded exploitation strategy for technological breakthroughs could be based on the analysis of patent networks, publications, and market data, applying machine learning and data mining algorithms to allow an anticipatory approach to innovation. By modelling innovation as an evolutionary process set in a complex space involving patents, countries, enterprises, assignees, companies and products, attempts to forecast its trajectories will be discussed in relation to the innovation practices of both the public and private sectors (public and large firms, start-ups, financial entities, etc.)

The list of confirmed keynote speakers includes:
• Guido Cardarelli – IMT Lucca & Complex System Society
• Doyne Farmer – University of Oxford
• Jeroen van den Hoven – Delft University of Technology
• Alan Kirman – EHESS & OECD
• Luciano Pietronero – Sapienza University of Rome & CNR-Institute for Complex Systems
• Ismael Ràfols – Ingenio, Valencia
• So Young Sohn – Yonsei University
• Bart Verspagen – UNU Merit

The registration for the workshop is now open: http://bit.ly/INET19Reg

We have also launched:
• a call for ideas, for students at all levels (travel support is available);
• a call for abstracts, for scholars at later stages (from postdocs onwards).

The deadline for sending your application to either call is August 18th, 2019. You can apply at this link: http://bit.ly/INET2019Turin

We welcome submissions of ideas/abstracts in the following domains:
• Economic Complexity and complex networks – both theory and applications;
• Coevolution of Science, Technology and Production (including multilayer networks approaches);
• Bibliometrics and indicators for interdisciplinary research;
• Big data for economics and innovation;
• Technological forecasting;
• Economics of Innovation and Innovation Management;
• Integration between complex networks and machine learning;
• Quantitative approaches to RRI and impact assessment.

Selected applicants will have the chance to:

• Present their research to selected audience of colleagues;

• Engage a face-to-face conversation with leading scholars in their field of research;

• Attend two exclusive workshops on (i) innovation mapping delivered by NESTA UK and (ii) complexity economics, delivered by OECD.
