RUCAM Political Economy Workshop/Conference for Early Career Economists (assistant professors, lecturers, postdocs, (advanced) PhD students) from 22 August to 25 August, 2022.

The goal of the workshop/conference is (i) to learn about modelling approaches in a particular area of political economy; (ii) to promote the exchange of research ideas; and (iii) create a network of researchers who work with analytical models. The workshop/conference consists of

  • Graduate teaching by Allan Drazen (professor, University of Maryland) and Toke Aidt (reader, Cambridge University) in the mornings;
  • Research presentations (45 min.) by participants in the afternoons, with Prof Drazen and/or Dr Aidt being present;
  • Evening activities (panel on analytical modelling; cooking workshop and gala dinner).

The graduate teaching: analytical modelling approaches to understanding democracy: Topic 1: models of reputation and credibility in democracies; Topic 2: Political transitions and institutions: Markovian models and their alternatives.

Your research presentations: You will present your own paper and benefit from feedback from a discussant and from the experts. We welcome papers from a wide range of topics such as (but not limited to) the economics and politics of public and non-market decision-making, political economy and the economics of institutions. Your discipline could be economics, political science or another social science.

The cooking workshop: We’ll cook our own gala dinner. We’ll be split in groups to prepare parts of our own dinner (soup, entrée, main course(s) and desert) and then enjoy it together.
