The new Development Economics Summer School is taught by experts in the field and specializes in the application of practical methods for the understanding of economic development, as well as providing tools for effective work in the field.

This brand new course in Development Economics will take place at the Barcelona GSE from July 8 to 12, 2019:

  • Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) in Development Economics: Design and Data Analysis, with Pamela Jakiela (Center for Global Development and University of Maryland) and Owen Ozier (World Bank)

The course should be of interest to graduate students or young academics who want to expand their knowledge and to acquire solid and practical tools for field work and large-scale interventions, and I will appreciate you help me distribute this information among those who may be potentially interested in participating.

The Barcelona GSE Development Summer School will cover some of the most recent and exciting work in the field of economic development covering both theoretical and empirical aspects, with a precise focus on policy that improves economic wellbeing in poor and developing countries.

Full information on courses contents, fees and discounts can be found here.

Introduction to practical field work and Call for Papers

The Summer School in Development Economics will also allow students to present and discuss their own work in class during the Paper Presentation Sessions, and also to get acquainted with a real field work project ("Networks Panel in Village Malawi"), participating in an informal workshop to discuss and adapt questionnaires that will be implemented in the new waves of the survey. Students will also learn practical implementation techniques that are valuable in the field. This Workshop and the Paper Presentation Sessions will take place during the lunch breaks from Monday to Friday.
