The fields of Criminal Justice and Emergency Services are growing occupations and Telecommunicators are essential to the operation of any Communications Center within these divisions. The Public Safety Telecommunicator (Emergency 911 Dispatcher) PSAV course is an eight-credit, entry-level training program designed to give the student experience in handling equipment commonly used in a Public Safety communications environment, as well as knowledge of the basic tasks performed by a telecommunications officer. The program prepares students for civilian employment as police, fire and emergency medical telecommunicators who operate telephones, radios and computer terminals responding to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance. They obtain vital information regarding the nature and location of requests and dispatch assistance as appropriate. This class meets the educational requirements for Florida Department of Health 911 Emergency Dispatcher Certification.
