The Toulouse Summer School in Quantitative Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary program in economics and social sciences offered by theToulouse School of Economics (TSE) and the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST). It is open to PhD students in economics and other disciplines.

Scholars from TSE and IAST will lead a program in the following topics:

- Part 1 (May 30 – June 10, 2022) The evolution of human sociality

- Part 2 (June 13 – June 24, 2022) Economic and political institutions

Students will be able to claim 3 ECTS credits per part. Students may attend part 1 only, part 2 only, or both parts.

Students will also benefit from the opportunity to attend the following two conferences, with leading scholars in the field:

Economics and Biology Workshop on June 2–3.
Political Economy Workshop on June 22–23.
As part of the summer school, registration fees for these conferences will be covered by TSE and IAST.

The Toulouse Summer School in Quantitative Social Sciences at Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST) offers an interdisciplinary program in economics and the social sciences. The summer school is open to PhD students in economics and other disciplines and  offers a variety of in presence courses taught by recognized experts in their fields.

Scholars from TSE and IAST will lead a program offering a variety courses, lectures, and interactive sessions in the following topics:

Part 1 (May 30 – June 10, 2022)
The evolution of human sociality
Jorge Peña, Jonathan Stieglitz, and Péter Bayer

Week 1 (Jorge Peña and Péter Bayer):

Day 1: Methods.
Day 2 : Indirect reciprocity.
Day 3: Institutional sanctioning.
Days 4–5: Toulouse Economics and Biology Workshop.

Week 2 (Jonathan Stieglitz):

Day 1: Pentecost holiday.
Day 2 : Social contract theory in light of human evolutionary social science ; Inequality, competition, and reproduction.
Day 3 : Life history theory ; Evolution of human cooperation.
Day 4 : Complementarity in human families ; Sexual conflict.
Day 5 : Cumulative culture : Pedagogy ; Norm enforcement.

Part 2 (June 13 – June 24, 2022)
Economic and political institutions

Day 1: Institutions and economic development (M. Saleh).
Day 2 : Methods and data (M. Saleh).
Day 3: Migration (M. Saleh).
Day 4: Intergenerational mobility and big data (M. Saleh).

Week 2 :

Day 1: Methods and data ; Political selection (H. Larreguy).
Day 2 : Political selection ; Social media and politics (H. Larreguy).
Days 3–4 : Political Economy Workshop.
Day 5 : Final presentations.
