The Cato Institute was established in 1974 as an American libertarian think
tank with headquarters in Washington, D.C. The main mission of the Cato
Institute is to further the understanding of public policies concerning
governments, free markets, peace, and individual liberty for citizens. The
institute hosts multiple conferences each year and also publishes numerous
papers, books, periodicals, and policy studies.Â
