Umeå University international conference on
Mobility, Economic Transformation, and Regional Growth
September 27th-29th (2017), Stockholm, Sweden
We are pleased to announce the Umeå University conference on
Mobility, Economic Transformation, and Regional Growth, to be held in Stockholm, Sweden, September 27-29, 2017. The conference provides a unique international forum for researchers in geography, economics, economic history, regional studies and other relevant disciplines.
The conference aims to develop a better understanding of the interaction between mobility, economic transformation and regional growth.
Papers are welcome on a wide range of topics within the three themes:
- Mobility; migration, commuting, virtual mobility etc.
- Transformation; job destruction and creation, entrepreneurship, etc.
- Regional growth; regional development, agglomeration economies, policy, etc.
In addition to presentations based on peer-reviewed abstracts, the conference program will include three keynotes covering the three themes. Keynote speakers are:
- Professor Heike Mayer, University of Bern (economic geography),
- Professor Jos van Ommeren, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam (urban economics)
- Senior research fellow Frank Neffke, Harvard University (economic geography)
Your presentation should be based on drafts of papers. An important aspect of the conference is to encourage future collaboration/networking. The meeting will allow excellent opportunities for formal and informal discussions in this respect.

Conference days: Wednesday 27th thru Friday 29th of September 2017.
Submission of abstracts of maximum 250 words and three keywords should be sent to Kerstin.Westin@umu.se, or Olle.email@example.com, or Rikard.Eriksson@umu.se. Please include title, authors, affiliation and corresponding contacts in the abstract.
Venue and fees
The meeting will take place at Villa Brevik in Stockholm (www.villabrevik.se). The Umeå University research programme will cover accommodation for 2 nights (September 27-29), and lunch 3 days, 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and coffee breaks. There is no conference fee.
Travel costs will not be reimbursed.
