As an internationally oriented scholar, you conduct research in the field of Business Information Systems in close collaboration with colleagues from the Information Systems research groups on campus Leuven and Brussels.
We are hiring the following two profiles:
Research profile A
We are looking for expertise in the field of technological aspects of Business Information Systems, such as digital technologies and ICT infrastructure, to complement current research and offer synergies for ongoing research.
Research profile B
We are looking for expertise on the management aspects in the domain of Business Information Systems, to complement current research and offer synergies for ongoing research. Examples of research topics of interest are: digital strategy, business value of IT, digital transformation, IT governance, ethical and privacy-related aspects of IT (non-exhaustive list). A strong network in the field of IS is an extra asset.
You publish in international top journals and/or top conferences in the relevant domain according to the profile. Junior applicants should have at least one or two publications in a journal with Q1 ranking according to the Web of Science and/or full papers at a conference with ranking A* according to the Computing Research & Education (CORE) conference ranking, preferably as main author. You attract research funding, develop international collaboration networks and supervise PhD students.
You strive for excellence in research and as such contribute to the reputation of the Faculty of Economics and Business. You have an outspoken interest in fundamental scientific research and also perceive opportunities for valorization of research findings and applied research. You have a strong international network as illustrated by your career, research stays abroad, co-authorship and co-supervision of projects. A network of business contacts that adds value in terms of both education and research is an extra asset.
There are two vacant teaching profiles and we expect the applicant to fit one of these. The teaching profile can be combined with any of the research profiles described above.
Teaching profile 1:
You teach courses in the domain of Business Information Systems at campus Leuven, campus Brussels or campus Kortrijk. You should be capable to teach in Dutch within two years and teach bachelor courses in the fields of programming, basics of operating systems and networks, and technological evolutions. Your teaching assignment for the master programmes can be decided based upon your research profile.
Teaching profile 2:
You teach courses in the domain of Business Information Systems at campus Leuven or campus Brussels. You should be capable to teach courses in English in the fields of Digital Trends, ICT strategy, governance, value of IT and Business Analysis. Your teaching assignment for the master programmes can be decided based upon your research profile. The option to later also teach a parallel Dutch version of your courses is considered an extra asset.
You contribute to the optimization and further development of education in the field of Business Information Systems and assist with supervising master theses. Applicants hired as tenure track, start with a reduced teaching load.
You develop teaching methods in line with the KU Leuven approach of research-based and practice-oriented education with an emphasis on activating students. You take advantage of the opportunities offered by the faculty and the university to further develop your teaching skills.
The candidate is expected to show willingness to take up internal service duties within the faculty and research group. He or she puts teaching and research activities at the service of society and aims to contribute to the broader social debate.
You have earned a PhD in applied economics with a major in Business Information Systems, a PhD in computer science, or a PhD in any other relevant domain for research in Business Information Systems. The quality of your research is demonstrated by publications in top international peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences in this domain. Candidates have at least 1 or 2 publications in top journals and/or in top conferences in the domain, preferably as main author.
Experience in writing grant proposals and a strong international network are recommended.
You can show evidence of strong didactical skills and preferably have teaching experience in the field of Business Information Systems. You have good communication and organization skills and are a team player.
You are proficient in English. The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch.
Language requirements for Teaching Profile 1:
The teaching language in the Bachelors is Dutch. In case you lack a sufficient knowledge of Dutch (level C1 is required for teaching), it is expected that you are prepared to obtain level C1 in the Dutch language within 2 years such that you can teach Dutch courses. KU Leuven provides Dutch language training for this purpose.
Language requirements for Teaching Profile 2:
You are required to obtain level B2 in Dutch at the end of the tenure track period. The B2 level is required to receive a tenured position at KU Leuven and allows taking part in management committees. Willingness to co-teach parallel Dutch courses, and obtain a Dutch language proficiency at the level of C2, after the tenure track period would be appreciated.
The vacancy is primarily open to junior researchers. Junior researchers will be hired as assistant professor in tenure track for a period of 5 years, which in case of a positive evaluation is followed by an appointment as a tenured associate professor. In exceptional cases, hiring at the level of associate professor can be considered.
Both full-time positions require a clear commitment to the Leuven campus of FEB, where you will be based. The research in Business Information Systems takes place in close collaboration with our colleagues of the Brussels campus of FEB.
The Faculty of Economics and Business has systematically been ranked highly by several independent accreditation committees regarding the quality of its research and teaching programs. To facilitate scientific onboarding and accelerate research in the first phase a starting grant of 100 000 euro is offered to new professors without substantial other funding, appointed for at least 50%.
