We are seeking an Assistant European VAT Controller for our European Shared Services Accounting department located in Riccarton, Edinburgh.
The successful candidate will work with the European VAT Controller to provide VAT expertise to the European region and act as a central point of contact for advisors and the wider Charles River business. They will also assist the European VAT Controller in conducting VAT compliance reviews and health-checks seeking opportunities to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our VAT processes.
The role will be part of a team responsible for the accuracy of European entity VAT returns and compliance with relevant European VAT legislation.
The successful candidate will build excellent relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues. This will include Corporate and EASST (European Accounting & Shared Service Team) personnel, Business Finance (based in country or elsewhere) and site leadership and management.
This is a hands-on role with the role holder expected to contribute to technical VAT analyses and become involved in projects as required.
The following are minimum requirements related to the Assistant European VAT Controller position.
• Previous experience of HMRC and / or VAT consultancy background in an international accounting firm• Qualified Accountant or working towards ICAS, ACCA, CIMA• Degree qualified in a business related subject• Excellent knowledge of UK and EU VAT legislation• Ability to digest technical guidance and translate to all business levels• Understand control processes (SoX) in large corporate environment• Experience within a multi location/country environment is also desirable
