The Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications for a faculty (MD, PhD, or equivalent) position with formal training in economics, health economics, health policy, health services research or related fields to further enhance the advancement of economic sciences in healthcare delivery, financing, outcomes and policy.

The mission of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research (HCPR) is to design and conduct health services research, policy analyses and evaluations of innovations, programs and policies that increase the value of healthcare services from multiple perspectives across the lifespan and generations. Faculty members investigate how implementation (as well as de-implementation when appropriate), dissemination and sustainability of innovations in healthcare services, organizational structure, payment models, and quality improvement and measurement approaches influence value throughout our healthcare system. In addition to grant funded projects, HCPR actively pursues contract funding from federal and state government agencies that represent unique opportunities for funding acquisition.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers leading and contributing to innovative projects that focus on:

  • Medicare and Medicaid policies and regulations
  • Clinical and system interventions aimed at improving health system performance and value, including long-term and post-acute care services (e.g., nursing home, home health, and transitional care), hospice and palliative care
  • Improving patient safety in all settings
  • Reducing health care disparities.

The successful candidate will conduct rigorous, externally funded research that contributes to the division’s mission. The incumbent will play a role in the expansion of currently funded programs, funding acquisition in new promising areas, and help develop collaborative relationships across the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as with external partners. Candidates will have experience, or demonstrate willingness and ability, to mentor junior faculty and research trainees at the MD, PhD, and MPH levels, as well as a willingness to provide expertise and consultation to colleagues and collaborators. Applicants should have an existing record of success in obtaining extramural funding to support their research through grants and/or contracts along with evidence of peer-reviewed research publications.  Applicants should also have at least six years of postdoctoral research experience.

Salary and Benefits:

The compensation range for this position has been established at $150,000 to $225,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education:  A terminal degree: PhD, MD, or equivalent with graduate-level, research-oriented training in economics, health services research, public policy, or related discipline.
  • Experience:   A minimum of 6 years of postdoctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a faculty member at an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated potential to establish an independent program of research
  • Demonstrated potential for successful acquisition of external funding.
  • Demonstrated experience working with clinical faculty on research projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The incumbent will have the ability to design and conduct rigorous health services and health policy research. This includes knowledge and skills in planning and management of research programs; organizing and leading external funding acquisition activities; and executing sound technical and financial management of grants and contracts. Successful candidates will also have the ability to provide leadership within the Division and successfully develop and maintain collaborative relationships across the Anschutz Medical Campus and the research community at large.
