Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day development and delivery of product cost models using internal and external databases for HARMAN automotive products.
- Establish the vision, framework and methods needed to enable highly accurate cost modeling covering all of the constituent cost components for mechanical components and systems including materials, tooling and manufacturing conversion costs.
- Establish required processes and methods to drive consistent practices within the cost engineering team. This includes the processes necessary to keep the cost models up to date with current information and best known methods.
- Define the HARMAN “best practice” cost reference for the mechanical components and systems used in HARMAN’s Automotive products including:
- Infotainment Systems with and without Displays
- Telematics Control Units (TCU)
- Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS)
- Car Audio Amplifier Systems
- Car Audio Speakers
- Analyze cost breakdowns from supplier quotes and understand all cost influent factors
- Build close technical relationships with suppliers to identify best cost solutions, including emerging technologies that provide cost improvements
- Work with Engineering & Product Sourcing teams during new business quoting to establish reference cost targets
- Support Procurement teams during negotiating events with target costing
- Establish process to train HARMAN Engineeering & Product Sourcing teams on Design-to-Cost best practices

Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering
- Minimum 15 yrs work experience in the following areas:
- Advanced manufacturing engineering
- Cost engineering of mechanical components and systems
- VA/VE of mechanical components and systems
- Development of mechanical components and systems
- Minimum 5 yrs technical management experience with demonstrated ability to direct the activities of technical team members, provide effective coaching/mentoring and deliver annual performance assessments
- Highly analytical approach to problem solving with demonstrated knowledge of product cost drivers and options to influence product costs
- Experience with design and/or manufacturing of complex mechanical systems
- Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to effectively present complex technical topics to senior and executive leadership
- Experience working in a fast paced, highly measured, results focused environment

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred
- Experience with automotive products is highly desireable
- Experience in an advanced manufacturing engineering role is preferred including experience working in a pilot factory
- Demonstrated ability to breakdown mechanical components, assemblies and systems into constituent costs
- Demonstrated understanding of materials, tooling and conversion costs in a variety of mechanical component manufacturing processes. Examples include:
- Stamping
- Casting
- Plastic injection molding
- Demonstrated ability to drive best in class results through the appropriate construction and use of metrics that effectively measure and improve team performance and outcomes
- Proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively work with all levels of a global matrixed organization
