Application Deadline:

In a joint appointment procedure, the University of Bamberg and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) would like to fill the vacancy of the position of the

Director

of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories and the

Professorship (W3) for Longitudinal Educational Research

at the earliest possible date.

The Director is appointed for a five-year term. Reappointment is possible. The W3 Professorship at the University can be appointed as a civil servant with unlimited tenure. The Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) is a member of the Leibniz Association, which consists of over 90 research and infrastructure facilities in Germany.

The LIfBi is a legally independent research-based infrastructure facility affiliated with the University of Bamberg, conducting research in the field of longitudinal education research. In particular, the Institute is responsible for carrying out the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). The main objective of this long-term project is to provide representative data on the development of competencies and educational trajectories in Germany. Therefore, the LIfBi closely collaborates with a nationwide network of excellence (NEPS Network). For further information about LIfBi please visit www.lifbi.de.

The Director manages the Institute. He or she is responsible for the long-term strategic development as well as the future orientation of the research and service program and its execution. A close collaboration with the NEPS Network, as the primary support regarding the National Educational Panel Study, will be obligatory. The field of duties includes the initiation of new research projects, the advancement of service offerings and their execution, the public representation of the Institute, and personnel management, as well as cooperation with partners at universities or other nonuniversity facilities.

Depending on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise, the position advertised will be combined with a chair at the Faculty of Human Sciences and Education or at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration at the University of Bamberg. Candidates will generally be expected to network with educational research facilities at both faculties, with the Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS), as well as with main research efforts of the University of Bamberg as a whole.

The Professorship entails a teaching load of 2 weekly hours per semester.

Applicants must have international acclaim; they have to provide in-depth knowledge and be nationally as well as internationally renowned in the field of longitudinal education research. The Director is expected to strengthen and raise the profile of the Institute – which was newly founded in 2014 – and strategically extend it as well as further international connections. Moreover, he or she should feel obliged to enhance the structures of administration and governance of the Institute. Experiences with the management of research projects conducted within large research alliances, the acquisition of third-party funding, and the cooperation with leading political figures and associations closely related to politics are further prerequisites.

Remuneration will be according to leading positions in Leibniz Institutes of comparable size.
