The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of the University of Göttingen has a position openings for a doctoral researcher at the Chair of Prof. M. Qaim. The position shall be filled as soon as possible (e.g., October 2017) and is available for a period of three years. Payment is according to salary scale TVL-E13 (50%).
The doctoral researcher will analyze socioeconomic aspects of smallholder agriculture using quantitative methods. The position is integrated into a project that is funded by BMZ and carried out jointly with ICARDA (International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas) and local partners in Tunisia. The project evaluates the effectiveness of different agricultural extension approaches. Using randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and household surveys, the impacts of the different extension approaches on technology adoption and farm household welfare are analyzed and compared. The research also looks into gender aspects. The position is based in Göttingen (Germany) but requires traveling and extended research stays in Tunisia for data collection. The doctoral researcher will participate in the PhD Program of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
You have a Masters’ degree in agricultural economics or a related discipline with very good grades, are familiar with quantitative methods in applied economics (especially econometrics), and have excellent oral and written English language skills. Good French language skills are also required, German language skills will be a plus. Previous experience with research projects in developing countries would be an asset.
