The KOF is the leading economic research institute in Switzerland. The Institute and its associates work in close cooperation with other researchers from the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (MTEC) at the ETH Zurich.
The successful candidate will join our research group working on empirically oriented projects in the field of innovation economics (applied microeconomics). Our research focuses on studies of innovation in the corporate sector and the structural change in and competitiveness of the Swiss economy. The group conducts the official biannual innovation survey for Switzerland and also has access to and works with comprehensive patent data.
As a doctoral student you will have the opportunity to write a dissertation in the above mentioned field and participate in the Economics Doctoral Programme at MTEC/ETH (https://www.mtec.ethz.ch/doctorate.html). Part of your time, you will work on projects exploring and analysing patent data. In addition, you will contribute to survey activities in the field of innovation and new technologies and conduct econometric analyses based on the collected data.
You have an excellent degree in economics or econometrics and a sound knowledge of empirical economic research methods and statistics. The scrupulous handling of extensive and in part complex (big) data does not pose an obstacle for you. Good knowledge of statistical software packages like STATA or R and basic knowledge in data base and programming languages like SQL, Python, etc. is of advantage. An excellent command of both German and English is required. You take initiative and like working in a team.
We offer an attractive work location in Zurich, interesting projects at the pulse of the economy in a dedicated team and a clear focus on your academic development.
