The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is the research institute of the German Federal Employment Agency based in Nuremberg, which main expertise is in labor economics.
The department “Active Labour Market Policies and Integration” of the IAB invites applications for a Doctoral or Postdoc Position. This is a full-time fixed-term position starting on January 13, 2020 and ending December 31, 2022.
The successful applicant will work on empirical research projects in the field of labour market policy evaluation. She/he will work in research projects of the department as well as develop her/his own research agenda. The analysis will mainly be based on administrative data of the German Federal Employment Agency. The successful candidate will also participate in implementing field experiments and conducting supplementing surveys. Research should be published in high-ranking journals as well as in policy-briefs and contribute to the debate on labour market policy.
Qualifications and experience
The ideal candidate should have an excellent degree in economics, sociology, computer science, or statistics, good knowledge of English and some experience in applying software packages suited for statistical analysis (Stata, R). Additionally, the ideal candidate has some experience working with administrative data and applying machine learning techniques. Some knowledge of German would be of advantage. We further expect him/her to be highly motivated and to be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Depending on your personal requirements, you will be recruited as a doctoral student or PostDoc. Your salary is determined according to the Public Employment Services salary scheme. Depending on qualification and experience, the gross salary will be in the range of 4.000-4500 Euro (TE I or TE II).
