The KOF Swiss Economic Institute is the leading institute for research in applied economics in Switzerland (www.kof.ethz.ch). The institute and its members work in close collaboration with the Center for Economic Research (www.cer.ethz.ch) at the Department of Management, Technology and Economics (MTEC) at the ETH Zurich. Our research activities concentrate on the Swiss and international business cycle developments and on the structure of the Swiss economy. KOF is the most important provider of indicators and forecasts for the Swiss economy.
To analyse and forecast economic developments of the small open economy of Switzerland, we use econometric time series and panel data techniques referring to both macro- as well as microeconomic data. The vacant position intends to strengthen our competences in the field of applied macroeconometrics.
The main focus of this position will be on research and in particular on the development and maintenance of macroeconomic forecasting models and indicators. The acquired knowledge will be used in forecasting Swiss macroeconomic variables and conducting related academic research.
Candidates are expected to either hold a university degree at the MA level or above in economics (with emphasis on applied econometric analysis).
Fluency in German and familiarity with the Swiss economy and its institutional framework, or the commitment to swiftly acquire this, is particularly favourable. Knowledge of French and/or Italian is considered to be of advantage.
As a researcher at a leading research institute integrated in the ETH Zurich, you will have the opportunity to conduct academic and policy-relevant economic research in an inspiring environment. For a PhD student, the appointment includes the opportunity of writing a dissertation in the candidate’s field of interest. The gross salary will be in accordance with the regulations of the ETH Zurich. For post-docs and more senior researchers the appointment includes opportunities for teaching courses related to the field of econometrics.
