We are searching for support in research and teaching at the Chair in Economic Policy at the Institute of Economics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

The position will be linked to the Chair’s research and teaching profile in the fields innovation economics, growth and development, spatial economics and methods in economic dynamics. Teaching formats include lectures, seminar and workshops, most of them in a blended format. We increasingly apply machine learning methods in economics.

Starting date is October 2022 and employment is offered for 3 years (with optional extension up to six years) according to the wage agreement of the civil service in TV-L E13.

About us:
The team of the Chair in Economic Policy analyzes governmental activities with regard to innovation, growth and regional development. For this purpose, formal-theoretical models are developed and applied to concrete economic issues by means of simulations and empirical analyses. The aim is to derive theoretically sound economic policy recommendations. Key application fields are high technologies and, more recently, green technologies.

An international research group is anchored at the chair, which in cooperation with the University of Strasbourg / BETA investigates technological and non-technological determinants of innovation. The chair is also active in scientific policy advising as well as in scientific knowledge dissemination to the society.

The position will be linked to the Chair’s research and teaching profile in the fields innovation economics, growth and development, spatial economics and methods in economic dynamics. Teaching formats include lectures, seminar and workshops, most of them in a blended format. We increasingly apply machine learning methods in economics.

Your tasks:

  • Participation in theoretical and empirical research projects of the chair, especially in the fields of innovation and growth
  • Independent research work with the goal of a doctorate or further qualification
  • Support in the organization and implementation of courses in the Bachelor and Master program, also in English
  • Cooperation in the preparation of project applications for third-party funding
  • Administrative tasks, especially IT matters of the chair

Personal qualification:

  • A strong Masters degree in Economics, Business Engineering, Mathematical Economics, Business Informatics or Business Economics
  • Sound knowledge of software used for the scientific tasks at the chair (e.g. LaTeX, R, Python, Mathematica)
  • Team spirit, communication and cooperation skills, organizational skills
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Good German language skills
