The positions are financed by the Ministry of Education and Research (MIUR) and will be held at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna. The project is coordinated by Prof. Matteo Cervellati (University of Bologna). The research team in Bologna includes also Guglielmo Barone, Sara Lazzaroni, Paolo Masella, Massimiliano Onorato, Alessandro Saia, Paolo Vanin, as well as Prof. Davide Raggi (from Università Ca' Foscari - Venezia).

We are seeking to hire up to 3 Post-Docs and 3 Research Assistants for one year in the first instance, with the possibility to renew the contract.

About the Project:

The positions will work on different research topics within the framework of the Project “Long-Term Development in Europe: A Disaggregated Historical Database and Spatio-Temporal Analysis of State Capacity, Warfare, and Diffusion of Ideas”. The researcher will help in the construction of new highly disaggregated datasets to study important questions in political economics and economic history. Research topics will include, among others, studying the role of the evolution of territorial control and state capacity, communication infrastructure, warfare events and diffusion of ideas in Europe, long-term migration, for the emergence of growth-friendly institutions and cultures of knowledge.

 

Requirements for the positions

  • A Master's degree in economics, statistics, computer science, or another related quantitative field.
  • Good knowledge of Stata, R, ArcGIS, QGIS, and Python (for scraping and other data assembly tasks)
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
