Post-doctoral researcher in health economics

Context: The University Centre for Primary Care and Public Health, Lausanne was founded on January 1st, 2019 to address the demographic and multi-morbidity challenges faced by our health care system. The Centre rallies the Department of Ambulatory Care and Community Medicine (https://www.pmu-lausanne.ch), The Institute for Social and Preventive Medicine (https://www.iumsp.ch) and the Institute for Occupational Health (http://www.i-s-t.ch). The Centre counts over 800 staff members (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, economists, social scientists, etc.) and proposes an attractive and innovative environment to conduct research in health services research and public health.

 

The successful candidate will be part of the Health Economics Group within the Department of Epidemiology and Health Services. The group, led by Prof. Joachim Marti, develops applied and methodological work in health economics and specialises in diverse areas including empirical policy evaluation, cost-effectiveness analysis and behavioural economics.

 

Role : The successful candidate will be the main researcher on a 3-year project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (http://www.snf.ch ).  The project, entitled « How to improve care integration, coordination and continuity? Designing policy from population needs and preferences » will combine routinely collected data analysis, stated preferences methods, and simulation modelling to inform policy aimed at improving care coordination for multi-morbid patients in Switzerland.

 

Precisely, the researcher will i) measure care continuity and analyse its impact on costs (econometric analysis of health insurance claims data), ii) assess population preferences for new care models (discrete choice experiments), and iii) evaluate the potential long-term impact of new care models (microsimulation).

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Coordination of the research project
  • Design and implementation of analysis plans, in collaboration with the research team
  • Contribution to scientific publications
  • Active participation in the Centre’s life

Requirements:

  • Education : PhD in economics, health economics, biostatistics, or a related discipline
  • Strong quantitative skills, in particular in the analysis of routine health data and in stated preferences methods (DCE)
  • Strong publication record
  • Excellent writing skills

Other competencies:

  • Knowledge of French would be an asset

  • Autonomous researcher
