Postdoc position in health economics at the DKFZ

Under the direction of the Head of the Division of Health Economics at the DKFZ, the health economist will be contributing to two distinct work streams. The first involves acting as a key liaison with the Division�s growing network of clinician scientists and policy makers on a project-by-project basis. Responsibilities include management and execution of health economic evaluation projects, including scoping materials, protocols, analysis plans, data collection forms, analyses, presentations, reports, and publications; assisting in identification and use of data and literature sources for model estimation; conducting rigorous internal review of assumptions, parameters, functions, and operations to ensure model robustness. The role will include the design, specification, and conduct of state-of-the-art cost effectiveness analyses (CEAs). The health economist will also lead, on a project-by-project basis, the development and specification of budget impact models.

The second work stream will involve active participation in empirical studies designed to test hypotheses underlying the concept of social cost value analysis (SCVA). This will include conceptualizing, specifying, and executing experimental economic studies in order to better capture social norms and preferences in the context of health economic evaluations.

The tasks will comprise:


We are seeking a highly motivated, conscientious and diligent scientist, who is flexible, dynamic, and able to work with autonomy to drive his/ her individual projects forward while also contributing to the division of health economics as an integral team member.

-          the successful candidate will have a recent or expected degree in health economics, economics, decision science, statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, health services research, or other relevant scientific  disciplines with strong quantitative trainings (ideally PhD level)

-          the candidate should be self-motivated, productive, and team-oriented with proven scientific problem-solving skills

-          the candidate should have experience in applied health economic evaluation, decision analysis, or a closely related field

-          the candidate should have experience in using decision analysis software (e.g., TreeAge, advanced Excel), knowledge of other general programming languages useful in decision analysis (e.g., STATA, R, C++) would be helpful

-          the candidate should also have excellent verbal and written communication skills in German

-          ideally, the candidate will have strong statistical and/ or predictive mathematic modelling skills

-          creativity and critical thinking to challenge ideas are expected

-          the ability to work well in a collaborative, cross-functional team is required

Duration: the PhD position is limited to 3 years and the postdoc position is limited to 2 years
