The Department of Law, Business and Economics at the University of Bayreuth (Chair of Quantitative Economic History, Prof. Sebastian T. Braun) invites applications for one Post‐Doctoral Position (Akademischer Rat/Akademische Rätin auf Zeit) (m/f/d) (payscale A13, 100%) in quantitative economic history and related fields.
The Chair of Quantitative Economic History (VWL VII) within the Department of Law, Business and Economics applies quantitative methods to the study of economic history. Core research areas are the labour market effects of immigration, the integration of immigrants in historical perspective and the causes of regional differences in economic development. We offer a stimulating research environment, which strongly promotes ambitious research ideas and internal and external research cooperation. Funding for conference travel, research assistants, and seminar invitations is available. Our teaching focus is on the new master’s program ‘History & Economics’, which offers a unique interdisciplinary education in history and economics.
- PhD in economics, economic history or other relevant discipline (or close to completion)
- Research interests in economic history, labour economics, international economics, and/or regional economic development
- Familiarity with econometric analysis and quantitative research methods
- Excellent knowledge of STATA, ARC‐GIS, R, or similar
- Publishing record or evidence of potential to publish in international peer‐reviewed journals
- Very good English language skills
Teaching requirements are 5 hours per week during the semester. The language of teaching will be English. Knowledge of German is not required.
The appointment begins on February 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment is initially limited to 3 years with the possibility of renewal for another 3 years.
