The Faculty of Business Administration is seeking to appoint a Professor of Empirical Economics and Data Science at pay grade W2, as of winter semester 2022 / 2023 or later.

Professor of Empirical Economics and Data Science

This call for applicants and appointment of this professorship is conducted within the framework of fulfilling the Hightech Agenda of the Free State of Bavaria. The successful candidate will be responsible for basic lectures as well as advanced modules in their field and exceptionally and effectively active in research in the designated area.

For the first five years, the teaching load is reduced by 50% in favour of research. An essential task for this professorship is to attract third-party funding. The successful candidate will support the development of young researchers and engage in knowledge and technology transfer. The applicant should be open to interdisciplinary cooperation with other Faculties, institutes, or competence centers and be internationally active to achieve the university’s aims. After five years the teaching load reduction can be extended if the research activities are evaluated positively.

Essential qualifications

You take an application-oriented approach to research, focusing on evidence-based answers to issues of social and economic policy, and you ideally also use machine learning procedures in addition to econometric methods. Interest in the field of behavioural economics is desirable. Publications in reputable international journals and success in acquiring third-party funding demonstrate your extensive experience in research. In addition, you also have the necessary pedagogical skills to be able to teach your subject clearly and in an application-oriented way in both English and German.

Your area of responsibility

With respect to your research, we expect you to acquire further third-party funding and publish in reputable international journals, as well as to become actively involved in encouraging young talents and knowledge transfer. That apart, you will also be expected to become involved in and later take on management responsibilities for the interdisciplinary competence center KoSIMA. Your teaching responsibilities will cover subjects ranging from quantitative methods and machine learning procedures to economics. You will teach in both German and English

Minimum requirements

A completed university degree is required. Research potential is measured by the quality of the achieved research degree (doctorate) or via alternative evidence (such as an official certification that the candidate has achieved a level commensurate to a doctorate). Appropriate pedagogical skills and special accomplishments in the application or development of academic insight and methods in professional practice must be demonstrated. Candidates must have a minimum of five years professional experience subsequent to the completion of a university degree, of which at least three years must have been spent outside an academic setting. In special cases the proof of non-university professional experience can be provided by verifying that a significant part of employment occurred in cooperation between the university and non-university professional practice over a period of at least five years.

Employment may either be under civil service law or private law according to the applicable regulations and requirements.

Disabled applicants will receive priority selection in cases where these candidates have equivalent qualifications, abilities, and skills compared to others.

The Nuremberg Institute of Technology is trying to significantly raise the proportion of women in academic teaching and therefore encourages suitably qualified female candidates to apply. Women will be given preference in placement subject to the priority of suitability, qualification, and professional experience, in accord with public service law and other current legislation. The Nuremberg Institute of Technology is a certified “family-friendly university”.
