The Faculty of Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences, Department of Economics, Professorship Microeconomics invites applications for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (POSTDOC) in Economics - SALARY LEVEL 13 TV-L -
The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on November 1, 2020.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years. The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG. The position is full-time and comprises 39 hours per week (40 for civil servants). This position is also suitable for part time employment.
Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.
You will get the opportunity to conduct research in the area of microeconomics with a focus on digital economy, in particular AI, in a stimulating environment of interdisciplinary research on digitalization. Moreover, you will be included in the preparation of a funding proposal for an international research network (and a research group) of economists in that particular area. Ideally, your research interests include artificial intelligence, either as a method to conduct research in economics, or as a topic of economic research. Teaching requirements are 5 p/w. It is expected that you are willing to teach tutorials (microeconomics I or II) if there is a corresponding need in the department.
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. A PhD or doctorate in economics. Well-founded knowledge of and experience in empirical research, especially text-data analysis, a sound education in microeconomic theory, and excellent English language skills.
