The Brandenburg Institute for Society and Security is hiring a Research Fellow (full or part-time) in the field of Economics of (Cyber-)Security and Related Disciplines.

The Brandenburg Institute for Society and Security – BIGS – is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit think tank based in Potsdam, Germany with an inter- and multidisciplinary approach towards civil security. We co-operate with the University of Potsdam, our national and international academic and industry network. BIGS consists of a young research team conducting high quality research and consulting, in particular in the economics of security and cybersecurity, and deriving policy advice from this research. BIGS is hiring a Research Fellow (full or part-time) in the field of Economics of (Cyber-)Security and Related Disciplines to participate in our research activities, to develop research proposals for the German security research program and Horizon Europe, and to support the director in acquiring research funding.

The ideal candidate should hold a master’s degree in economics or a related discipline (including but not limited to business administration, political science, criminology, sociology, or statistics). Applicants should have a profound knowledge of and strong research interest in economics and issues concerning civil security, cybersecurity, security of supply or security policy. This background should ideally be documented by academic publications, studies or op-ed articles. They should be familiar with the German and European civil security research community, related networks and funding schemes. Fluency in German and in English is required.

The position is available from March 2021 on for a duration of at least one year but realistically longer. BIGS offers flexible working hours and a family-friendly work environment. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a statement outlining their motivation for joining the institute and their research interests (1 page), a sample of written work, curriculum vitae, and copies of degree certificates. Applications can be submitted in English as well as in German.
