The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is one of the leading policy-orientated  research institutions of labour market research in Europe and advises politicians on the basis of the latest scientific findings. It is part of the Federal Employment Agency (BA).

You work in the research group “Basic Income Support and the Labour Market”. The research group examines changes in basic income support in the context of developments on the labour market and labour market institutions. The focus is on the role of different forms of employment and labour market processes in ending benefit receipt, and the influence of labour market and social policy. The empirical analyses are carried out, among others, using the IAB microsimulation model (IAB-MSM). With the IAB-MSM you will conduct research projects analysing the impacts of social and labour market policies as well as policy reforms on labour supply  and the income distribution.

You participate in diverse and relevant research projects and contribute to the research agenda of the research group. IAB also offers attractive opportunities for further qualification.

In the years of 2020, 2021 and 2024 the working hours are 100%, in 2022 and 2023 75%. It may be possible to increase the working hours in 2022 and 2023.

As a researcher at IAB, you should be interested in carrying out scientific-empirical research projects in cooperation with national and international partners, in publishing and presenting your research results and providing economic policy advice.

We expect a doctorate or master's degree in economics or related fields, preferably in public or labour economics. Candidates should have advanced knowledge of econometric methods and programming skills (e.g. Stata or R). Experience in empirical economic analysis, economic modelling or microsimulation is desirable. Knowledge of the German labour market and the tax and benefit system is helpful.
