The School of Accounting and Finance is now inviting applications for two positions:
- Researcher in Economics for a fixed term of 3 years
- Project Researcher in Economics for a fixed term of 2 years
The start date is at 1.1.2020 but can be negotiated. The employment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
The positions are located within the School of Accounting and Finance in connection with the Economics research group. The theme of the research is financial literacy. The main task is to participate in a research project in which the topic is developing the financial skills of young people utilising digital and gamification methods. The research is funded by the Academy of Finland's Strategic Research Council, and the project is part of a larger Digiconsumers consortium coordinated by the University of Jyväskylä.
As a researcher, you will plan educational interventions related to financial education and associated experimental research settings and own the responsibility for their practical implementation. You will be responsible for the statistical analysis of the research material and processing statistical data. You will create research reports and scientific publications based on the analysis. You will also participate in communicating the results of the project.
As a project researcher, you will assist in the administrative tasks of the research project. You will participate in planning the educational interventions conducted as part of the research and assist in the practical implementation. You will also participate in writing research reports and project communication.
The annual working time for both a Researcher and Project Researcher is 1624 hours. The tasks are agreed in more detail in the Annual Work Plan.

As a researcher, you hold a doctoral degree in economics or other closely related subject, or are at the final stage of your doctoral studies. You are able to plan experimental designs, have excellent skills in statistical data processing and are proficient in using the software used in the field. In evaluating your merits, we will also take into account pedagogical experience and expertise. You also master writing scientific text. The position requires an excellent command of the English language. Good Finnish language skills and good interaction and communication skills are considered an asset.
As a project researcher, you hold a relevant Master's degree. In evaluating your merits, we will take into account skills in statistical data processing (Excel, statistical software) and pedagogical experience and expertise. Your communication in Finnish and English is fluent. Also good communication and interaction skills are considered an asset.
The administrative language of the University of Vaasa is Finnish. The teaching languages are Finnish and English. lf the candidate is a foreigner or a Finnish citizen who is not a native or has not been educated in Finnish, they may be granted an exemption from the language proficiency requirement without separate application. The selected candidate is expected to acquire the necessary language skills needed in the position in accordance with the language policy of the University of Vaasa.
The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The salary for a Researcher is based on demand level 5 (2936 €/month) and for a Project Researcher on demand levels 2-4 (2033-2535 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
