Purpose of the role:

Reporting directly to the Head of Series and New Model Material you will be responsible for recommending and implementing key strategies for Material Planning and Material Control for McLaren Automotive.
This is an opportunity to join one of the most dynamic departments within our business – Logistics.
As a Senior Manager, it will be your responsible for directly coaching, developing a team of managers to deliver Horizon 2030.
You will ensure everyone is operating at the same level, taking a proactive approach to their own development and instil a high level of expectation whilst working in a high-pressure area.
Whilst it will be the role of the Senior and Managers to manage suppliers, you will be the single point of escalation between supply chain and purchasing, you will be extremely active from a supplier engagement perspective should the supply chain breakdown and become a potential threat to our production line. You will also be responsible to advise on the potential risk to associated teams – purchasing, SQA, production and communicate on how suppliers are performing – OTIF.
Whatever your current situation, to be successful in this role, extensive supply chain management experience within manufacturing will be key, preferably automotive. Previous experience of managing a team, with exceptional interpersonal skills, it will be expected of you to be hands on and well accommodated with dealing and adapting to multiple challenging priorities.
We will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of scheduling standards for all raw materials from a supply chain of 250+ and good understanding of SAP scheduling would be beneficial.
The ultimate aim is to provide the very best possible parts availability to production at the optimal cost, delivered in the most efficient and effective manner, to achieve customer satisfaction and commercial business objectives.
MATERIAL PLANNING AND MATERIAL CONTROL: This encompasses supplier engagement and schedule adherence management, material control, budget setting, inventory forecasting and optimisation, engineering change management, inbound freight and cost management, and daily reporting to senior management of any risks.
Material delivery validation and assurance of Supplier and supply chain readiness for Series production and volume ramp to achieve McLaren’s Horizon2030 business plan.
Parts Availability – Operational responsibility for overall parts raw material planning and material control, ensuring the right parts are available at the right time to support Series Production, production ramp up and build of Ultimate series vehicles.
Delivery – Supplier management is key to ensuring that material is delivered lineside, on time, and in full, maintaining the quality.
3PL - Interaction with key stakeholders within the 3PL business to ensure that Logistics plans are fully integrated and supported.
Inventory Control - Ensure that inventory levels are realistic and cost effective - balancing pick availability with prudent cost control to achieve business cash flow objectives. Proactively mitigating the risk of obsolescence and unproductive stock levels.
Inventory strategy – Propose and implement agreed strategy and manage the end to end commercial costs and working capital in line with McLaren Automotive business objectives.
Leadership – To lead and motivate the Series Material Planning and Control team, and all supporting suppliers, to ensure that they remain highly invested and focussed on delivery of stable production and KPI target achievement with the wellbeing of the team under-pinning a high preforming team.
Supplier performance and Inventory Reporting - Deliver accurate and regular reports and forecasts to provide maximum transparency for all stakeholders and to drive appropriate performance and action.
Material Planning Strategy – Propose and implement agreed long range strategic plans and business model for Material Planning based on future business plans to ensure that the operation is well prepared and positioned for future challenges and rapid business growth.
Business Integration - Interaction with key stakeholders within the wider business, ensuring that McLaren Series vehicles plans are fully integrated and supported.
Delivery Management - Point of escalation and leading the resolution of schedule, timing and supply constraints and contract discussions, freight issues, parts backorders, supply chain and operational challenges, and general supplier performance. All instances to be reviewed and rectification measures to be applied to prevent re-occurrence.
Supplier Management & Engagement – Ensure that suppliers are actively managed and monitored and fully understand Logistics requirements for the short, medium and long-term horizons. Regularly interact with current and potential Suppliers to understand market challenges, opportunities and to assess current performance vs. target. Drive requirement for business improvement plans where required.
Continuous Improvement – Review operational and systems performance daily, identifying and proposing clear recommendations for improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Financial Management – Review complex numerical data, identify key trends and develop clearly structured long-term projections for future parts growth.
Customer Interface – Lead engagement with suppliers and customer (Production Leadership team) to assess risks, develop containments, recovery plans and mitigate impact on production volume.
Knowledge, skills & experience:
- Educated to Degree level.
- Extensive Supply Chain experience ideally gained with an automotive manufacturer.
- Proven leader of teams and change management.
- Proven ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority.
- Broad understanding of global distribution challenges (legislation etc).
- Proven ability to manage all aspects of complex supply chains from end to end.
- Experience in analysing and interpreting data.
- Proven communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Highly IT literate (Microsoft applications, SAP etc).
- Thrives in a fast paced, challenging and dynamic environment.
- Ability to think strategically whilst ensuring day to day operation objectives are met.
