The Special Collections Assistant will contribute to the success of the department by arranging and describing archival collections of cultural significance, providing research services, completing special projects, and assisting the department with administrative tasks.
Conduct cataloging and archival processing (arrangement, description, finding aid creation, preservation, and re-housing) for collections in multiple formats, especially in the areas of Malibu history and art history.
Provide research services, including monitoring the research room and answering reference questions, especially in the area of Malibu history.
Complete departmental administrative tasks.
Complete special projects related to the Malibu Historical Collection and the Starr Art and Music Collection.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree; experience in a library, special collections, or archival setting; excellent organizational skills; the ability to perform detailed work; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; the ability to work with fragile or delicate materials; the ability to work independently and as a team member; the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and move loaded book trucks; excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Google Suite.
Preferred: Coursework in librarianship, cataloging, or archival theory and practice; experience creating archival finding aids according to DACS standards; knowledge of archival principles and practices, including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS); experience using Archivists’ Toolkit or ArchivesSpace.
