Overview

To lead engineers and project teams, to provide technical guidance, to manage projects and to coordinate activities across projects. These projects will focus on contact lens processing equipment and automation. To manage resources and budgets and to provide reports to various levels of management.

 

Responsibilities

Develop technical direction for engineering initiatives
Define roles and responsibilities for project team members
Manage project schedules and budgets
Manage external vendors and service providers
 

 

This will include the following activities:

Develop URS documentation for equipment and machine controls software systems. 
Develop project schedules and budget proposals for large scale projects. 
Develop and implement new technologies and systems to support R&D and Operations activities
Structure teams, define roles, responsibilities and deliverables. 
Identify risks to project deliverables and implement mitigating actions. 
Track project progress and communicate this to a variety of stakeholders. 
Coordinate activities across many project streams.
Identify, evaluate and appoint appropriate suppliers across a range of required technologies and services. 
Ensure regulatory, quality, safety & ethical standards are followed at all times.

 

Scope of Position:

Leads project teams with 3 to 25 engineers
Manages timescales from three months to three years. 
Manages budgets for $100k to $50M. 
Has to ensure consistency with activities with other sites.

 

Key Relationships:

Has to liaise and coordinate activities across a broad range of functions e.g. R&D, Operations, Procurement, Finance and a wide variety of external vendors and service providers.

 

Qualifications

Education: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Mathematical/Scientific/Engineering discipline required.

Advanced degree in these areas or Business Administration desirable. 

Project Management Professional qualification of the PMI desirable.

Training in Six Sigma techniques to Black Belt desirable.

 

Experience: 

5+ years of experience as an engineer working on projects with significant technical content and innovation. Demonstrated analytical capability.

5+ years of experience of project management and the supervision of engineers related to:

New Product Introduction
Manufacturing platform development
High-value, high-tech content automation projects
Experience of medical device and/ or pharmaceutical manufacturing
Knowledge of the GAMP standards and approach to validation
Understanding of Safety standards and practices
High standard verbal and written communication skills. 
Demonstrated ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
