Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Distribution Supervisor, provide direction to assigned Material Handlers at the Mentor Distribution Center and assist/backup the International Specialists. Knowledgeable on all international shipping documentation following DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations to include proper dangerous goods handling.

Duties

1.  Assist the Distribution Supervisor in providing direction to Material Handlers as well as backup responsibilities for International Specialists.

2.  Provide all necessary training to Material Handlers to ensure adherence to company, department, and government policies and procedures.

3.  Responsible for packaging products and completion of international documentation for international customer shipments and distribution center transfers.

4. Work professionally and effectively with other leads, the supervisor and employees regarding workflow, work schedules, communications and production matters to maintain a professional work environment and efficient operations.

5.  Ensure employee safety and compliance of safety policies.  Ensure all employees are wearing proper PPE, reporting or correcting safety concerns, and recommending changes for improvements.

6.  Pay attention to processes or steps leading to the accomplishment of results, and looks for ways to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, efficiency and/or effectiveness.

7.  Responsible for staying current with DOT, IMDG, and IATA regulations on domestic and international hazardous shipping procedures.

8.  Responsible for reviewing open batch report and ensuring orders are shipped and closed in a timely manner. 

9.  Interface with other departments (Traffic, Customer Service, Planning) ensuring customer order requirements and delivery dates are being met.

10.  Other duties as assigned.

Education Degree

Required Experience

 

  1. 1-2 years warehousing operations experience
  2. 1 year of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  3. 2-3 years of International Shipping experience strongly perferred

 

Skills/Competencies

 

  1. Knowledge of computerized warehouse systems and UN/DOT, IMDG, and IATA shipping regulations for domestic and international shipping.
  2. Demonstrated leadership skills including, taking initiative, initiating change, promoting teamwork, championing ideas, taking appropriate risks, translating ideas into specific tasks, develop, implement and sustain continuous improvement programs, gaining confidence and trust of others.
  3. Must be able to work effectively against deadlines and handle several tasks/projects simultaneously while meeting or exceeding performance standards.
  4. Must be able to work in both a standard office environment and in a distribution warehouse facility.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and react appropriately with shifting priorities and rapid change.
  6. Demonstrated effective communication with internal and external customers, leads and supervises, with the proven ability to show tact and diplomacy while dealing with others in a variety of situations.
  7. Demonstrated high level of performance, professionalism, confidentiality and integrity.
