The School of Business and Economics of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of
Tenure-Track Professor for Data Science in Economics
Intended starting date is April 1, 2022.
The position is part of the School’s initiative to further broaden and strengthen its activities in Data Science and its applications in different domains and to foster its innovative and interdisciplinary development. We are looking for outstanding candidates with an excellent track record of applying advanced statistical methods and who are highly interested in applying Data Science methods in relevant and promising fields in economics. The successful candidate will further have expertise in several of the following areas:
- Working with unstructured data
- Machine learning for analyzing scientific data
- Workflow for reproducible research and statistical analysis
- Handling and management of large and diverse data sets
In addition, we expect experience with R and/or Python in teaching or research, and we further expect expertise in one area of application such as labor economics, public economics (taxation, health, environmental, etc.), international or regional economics, econometrics, financial economics, organizational economics, or innovation economics.
We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the School’s teaching portfolio at all levels, in particular to the M.Sc. Data Science in Business and Economics. A clear empirical focus in research and teaching is expected, and a commitment to open science is appreciated. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter.
We are looking for outstanding candidates in an early phase of their career with an excellent track record:
An outstanding doctoral thesis in a relevant field (e.g., economics), recognizable potential for internationally visible publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and third-party funding, as well as teaching experience.
Applicants for a Tenure-Track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia and/or research for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.
This Tenure-Track position is subject to an interim evaluation after four years and a final evaluation after six years. If the final evaluation is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.
