The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to a

within the Faculty of Natural Sciences III, Institute for Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences.

The successful candidate is expected to represent the subject area “Agricultural Production Economics and Farm Data Management” (plant, animal, energy and biomass production) in teaching and research. Focal areas are data-based decision support in agricultural business operations and data-based farm business consultancy.
The central fields of research are digital farm data management and the modeling of decisions. Particularly relevant fields include the use of big data, the economic and resource-saving optimization of agricultural production processes (Precision [Livestock] Farming) as well as inter-business process optimization within digitized traceability and quality management systems. The research on data-driven optimization is to support a sustainable resource use in the agricultural sector. In the area of precision farming, the successful candidate is expected to use the existing possibilities to carry out large-scale agricultural field experiments under practical conditions in cooperation with experimental and teaching farms. In the field of agricultural consultancy, a particular emphasis is to be put on the question of how the content and the methodology of agricultural extension need to be adapted to make full use of novel digitalized decision-support technologies and digital media.
Close cooperation with the agricultural science professors of the institute, subject-related areas of the university and non-university research institutes in the region is expected.

Applicants need to fulfill the pre-conditions of appointment as stipulated in section 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. Particular emphasis is placed on a Habilitation in the relevant field or an equivalent level of scientific achievement and recognition. Candidates are expected to have attained the appropriate level of experience or qualification in teaching and should have a proven track record, including relevant publications and, in particular, experience in the field of production economics and farm digitization. The willingness to participate in university self-administration is a prerequisite.
