The PhD in Business is a unique programme within the Catalan university system that enables students to carry out high-level research activities in business and management at the UB Business School, the centre for research and postgraduate and executive education in business at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona.
The programme is specifically intended for students seeking to embark on an international career in research. After successful completion of the programme, new PhD holders will be able to work as academics in universities, business schools or research centres. However, the academic arena is not only the career opportunity for students. The doctoral programme in Business also prepares them to work in fields like consulting.

To enter a doctoral programme at the University of Barcelona, it is necessary to have completed 300 ECTS credits, and 60 of those have to correspond to an official graduate, research oriented master’s programme.

Students enrolled in the programme will be assigned one or two supervisors specialised in their chosen research field. All supervisors are expert researchers and regular contributors to leading business and management journals.
Throughout the programme, students are required to participate in a number of complementary activities. These include research seminars, workshops, courses and conferences. PhD candidates are also encouraged to publish their research and to seek temporary research placements at other universities or research institutions.
