It has been projected that by year 2020, over 21,000 accountancy professionals are expected to be working in professional accountancy services. This was echoed by the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Trade and Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling at the inaugural Accountancy Education Symposium held on 21 June 2016. The vision mapped out by the Committee to Develop Accountancy Sector (CDAS) to transform Singapore into a global Accountancy Hub in Asia Pacific by 2020, will undoubtedly fuel a greater demand for accountancy skills and qualifications. Accounting professionals who can competently navigate the intricacies of financial reporting, address complexities in tax systems and enhance companies’ risk management capabilities will be highly sought after.
Against this backdrop, Nanyang Polytechnic is pleased to offer the Diploma in Business Practice (Accounting) designed to train adult participants in meeting the rising complexity of accounting requirements and support the Skills Framework for the accountancy sector to develop talent with the necessary skillsets for the industry. Articulation pathways are already in place to professional qualifications such as ACCA and ICAEW and the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy which is currently the only non-graduate pathway into Singapore Chartered Accountant qualification.
The 5 modular certificates offered in the Diploma in Business Practice (Accounting) will equip the adult learners with the relevant skillsets in business communications, Infocomm and data analytics. They will also cover key technical areas such as financial and management accounting, costing, taxation, auditing, internal controls, risk management and corporate finance.
The modular certificate course aims to promote life-long learning opportunity for anyone without a tertiary qualification to upgrade themselves academically. It allows learners to pursue professional qualification from professional accountancy bodies such as ACCA and ICAEW and is accredited to the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy and progress to the Singapore CA Qualification to attain the Chartered Accountant of Singapore designation.
