This is a rigorous postgraduate programme in economics for non-economists. It enables students whose first degree is not in economics to develop the necessary skills for a career in this exciting and rewarding field.
You may have an undergraduate degree in Management, Business, or in Information Systems. You may have a BA in English Literature or in Finance. If you want to access the opportunities open to highly-qualified economists, our MA in Economics will equip you with the right skills and latest knowledge to help you on your pathway.
Students of our MA in Economics come with a variety of prior academic and work experience. Our aim is to inspire each student through a systematic and insightful study of theoretical and applied models used in the analysis of economics problems. We do this by offering a wide range of compulsory and optional taught modules that highlight theory, application or both. In addition, students undertake a project that allows them to put their new skills in use.
In the first semester, foundations of microeconomics, macroeconomics and finance introduce students to the basic concepts in economics. A fourth module in quantitative methods introduces students to the necessary mathematical and statistical tools. All modules are compulsory and set at the right level of difficulty for students without prior training in economics.
In the second semester, the focus becomes more applied and students have the ability to choose two of their modules. Two compulsory modules in applied policy analysis and applied econometrics show how economics and its tools are used to make data-driven decisions. An extensive list of optional modules covers topics in international finance, risk management, energy, development, and others.
