The Department of Economics and Business at the University of Cergy-Pontoise (Paris area, France) offers a 3-year PhD scholarship (starting October 1st, 2017). The research topic of the PhD student may belong to any field in economics and/or econometrics. The scholarship is the standard PhD scholarship offered by French universities (“contrat doctoral”, the gross amount is around 1750 euros per month).
The PhD student will be hosted at THEMA, the research center of the Department of Economics and Business. THEMA is a research unit of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The department is among the best ranked French departments in economics: 5th in France, 44th in Europe, 123rd worldwide. It is located 30 km from central Paris.
A good command of French is not a prerequisite, but a good command of English is appreciated, since it facilitates the research activity, which is international in nature. A significant proportion of the faculty staff and the PhD students are not French (seminars are given in English, and the master’s program is taught in English).
The applicant must hold a Master's degree in Economics or a related field (or a university degree equivalent to a European Master’s, i.e., 5-year duration).
Interested applicants should submit a copy of their last degree, a detailed CV with a short description of the courses they attended in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, a motivation letter, a short research proposal specifying the intended research topic (1 page), as well as a recommendation letter (more than one recommendation letter can be sent, recommendation letters should be sent directly by their authors).
Review of applications will continue until the scholarship is allocated.
