PhD Scholarship: Empirical Asset Pricing Applications - QUT

The School of Economics and Finance at the Queensland University of Technology is seeking high quality applications for a PhD Scholarship.

The successful applicant will undertake research in empirical testing of asset pricing models. This could cover topics such as applying time-series tools to allow for time-varying risk exposure and causes of such; or exploring the benefits and econometric drawbacks that arise when using individual securities in empirical tests.

The School of Economics and Finance is part of the QUT Business School. There are around 40 academics in the School teaching (across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs) and undertaking research in a wide range of areas within both the Economics and Finance disciplines. The School has a vibrant research culture with both a regular external and internal seminar series. A QUT Business School Scholarship set at a rate equivalent to the Australian Research Training Program base rate (AUD $27,596 in 2019) indexed annually, tax-free for three years. A full QUT Tuition Fee Sponsorship to cover QUT tuition fees.

The opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant (taking small tutorial classes) for teaching experience and extra income.

While QUT does not offer a formal structured coursework program, there is the opportunity to attend short PhD courses held both here at QUT and other Australian Universities.

A dedicated working area and desktop computer.

Excellent computing facilities including access to a High Performance supercomputing facility.

Access to many financial databases through the QUT Library.

Honours or Masters level qualifications in Finance or a related discipline.

How to Apply

Applicants are first asked to submit an expression of interest. Please include a detailed CV outlining your qualifications and any previous research experience, plus academic transcripts from previous study. In addition you are asked to write a short research proposal based on the asset pricing areas outlined above.
