The Department of Medicine- Westside Prostate Cancer Center division is hiring a Senior Research Associate to join our team. We seek a talented biological researcher who is capable of working with a team to develop and apply innovative technologies to cancer target discovery.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for live cell and tissue imaging using advanced microscopy techniques. These will include two-photon imaging, laser confocal imaging, the use of fluorescent dyes and chromogenic stains. This position will involve the analysis of high-throughput microscopy image data using software such as Imaris and PerkinElmer’s Harmony. The candidate will perform cell culture tasks, including the generation and culturing of patient-derived tumor organoids, and prepare cancer tissue specimens for drug screening. This position involves the design and documentation of experiments, detailed record-keeping, and weekly presentations to supervisory staff. The selection, operation, and maintenance of complex microscopy equipment will also be required. Because USC is an educational institution, the candidate is expected to mentor undergraduates and junior staff members. Senior research associates are expected to aid in the development of grant applications, contribute to writing scientific manuscripts, and perform day-to-day tasks independently.
Ideal candidate should have excellent verbal and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment are required. Key success factors in the performance of this position include attention to detail, the ability to collaborate across disciplines, and curiosity.
Our focus at the Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine of USC is improving cancer outcomes by discovering optimal approaches to personalized therapy. Our vision is that a patient’s own metrics, including molecular tumor markers, the dynamics of intracellular processes, or the behavior of cells across diverse microenvironments, will determine their most effective treatment. We will discover them by investigating both in vitro systems and patient-derived tissues. Live cell and whole tissue microscopy are central technologies in our research.
