We want to explore to what extent political and social conflicts throughout history have had economic roots. Also, we wish to shed light on the reverse chain of causation. Has social conflict historically inhibited growth, or has it stimulated development? The focus will be on internal (domestic) conflicts, but work which sheds light on international dimensions is equally welcome. Please submit a one-page abstract and a short CV to Nikolaus Wolf (email: nikolaus.wolf@wiwi.hu-berlin.de).
