Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is a Swiss-based and internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH domain (Swiss Federal Institute of Science and Technology). To cope with the increasing demand for economic analysis and underpinning of water policy and decision-making the newly founded Environmental Social Science department at Eawag has a vacancy for a

Tenure track position in Environmental Economics with a focus on Water Resources Management

Applications are invited from individuals with a PhD degree and excellent research record in environmental economics, and a demonstrated interest in integrating applied economic research in water and river basin management. The position will be part of an ongoing interdisciplinary research program focusing on the development of integrated hydro-economic modeling, water resources valuation, economic impact assessment of water policy and decision-making, the design and evaluation of economic policy instruments for sustainable water management. Key research foci will include the assessment of business, policy and social responses to climate change risks and opportunities, economic analysis of the costs and benefits of adaptive governance approaches to managing risk and uncertainty in urban and rural water systems. The program will benefit from collaborating with the excellent academic research groups in the social sciences, engineering, natural science and development research at Eawag, and longer-term collaboration with the Department of Environmental Economics in the Institute for Environmental Studies at the VU University in Amsterdam.

The successful candidate is expected to develop and lead a strong longer-term research program, acquire third party funding to support this program, recruit PhD and Master students, and contribute to Eawag's mandate in teaching and expert consulting. Excellent communication skills in English and team work are essential; an ability to communicate in German would be an asset.
