The Faculty of Economics and Management of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is seeking excellent candidates to fill the following academic position:
Associate Professor in Finance
(13/ECON-09 – ECON-09/B – Financial Markets and Institutions)

Profile
Candidates should have an excellent research record in the area of financial markets and/or the area of financial institutions. Candidates should have a PhD in finance or a related discipline with significant experience in teaching at BSc, MSc, and/or the PhD level. Candidates must have an excellent record of scientific publications in those finance journals that are included in the highest classification levels of the “Academic Journal Guide”. The successful candidate will join the Research Cluster in “Financial Markets and Regulation” and take an active lead in the development of research initiatives in her/his areas of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to interact and engage with the regional banking ecosystem. The successful candidate must teach courses in at least two of the three official teaching languages at the Faculty of Economics and Management (German, Italian, English) and must have language skills either in German and English at native speaker level or level C1 or language skills in Italian and English at native speaker level or level C1.
Position
The position offered is at the Associate Professor level in Financial Markets and Institutions (Professore Associato in the scientific sector ECON-09/B under the Italian academic system). The position is tenured, full-time, and requires a minimum of classroom teaching of 120 hours per academic year.
The compensation package for the position is competitive and matches that of leading European universities. Additionally, under certain conditions, it is possible to obtain a long-standing, substantial reduction in income tax in Italy for up to 13 years. Expected appointment date is October 2025.

Requirements
According to Italian legislation, only candidates already holding an equivalent academic position of Associate Professor at their current foreign university (a university outside Italy) are eligible to take part in this application process of a “direct call from abroad”. Applications that do not satisfy this requirement will not be short-listed.
Furthermore, the Selection Committee will consider applicants meeting the following conditions:
- evidence of high-quality teaching and mentoring through student or department evaluations;
- evidence of high-quality publications in finance;
- significant level of service to the department, the university and the profession;
- evidence of ability to raise external funds for research;
- proven ability to teach at least in two of the three official teaching languages at the Faculty of Economics and Management (German, Italian, English). The successful candidate must have language skills in German and English either at native speaker level or level C1 or language skills in Italian and English either at native speaker level or level C1.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Economics and Management was founded in 1998 and currently counts over 1.100 students and more than 60 faculty members, who study and work in three languages: English, German, and Italian. Through academic excellence in research and teaching, the Faculty contributes to the development of the South-Tyrolean economy while being solidly connected to international scientific networks.
The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is ranked 176-200 in the "Times Higher Education 2024" Subject Ranking for "Business & Economics", and 351-400 for the university as a whole. The working language of the Faculty of Economics and Management is English but teaching is done also in German and Italian.
The Research Group on Financial Markets and Regulation aims at academic excellence in the fields of finance and accounting; group members have published in journals such as Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Finance, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Accounting, Organizations and Society, etc.
