At the Chair of Public Economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Fribourg, we seek applications for a 100% PhD position with responsibilities as a research and teaching assistant, for up to 4 years, starting around September 2026. We conduct empirically oriented research in public economics, including topics related to public finances, regulation, political governance, and corporate networks. The successful candidate will work in an active research environment with close interaction with other members of the research team and the department.

Job description
• Conduct independent research.
• Possibility to participate in various ongoing research projects.
• Core tasks include data preparation, econometric analysis, and drafting research papers.
• A smaller share of time is devoted to supporting teaching activities and administrative tasks.

Profile
• Master’s degree in economics at the time of appointment.
• Solid education in empirical (causal) methods is required; experience with Stata/R/Python is a strong asset.
• Demonstrate interest in public economics (broadly defined) and a strong potential for independent, high-quality research.
• Excellent written and oral English and working knowledge of French.
