UCD School of Economics is Ireland’s leading Economics department (and in the top 70 in Europe according to the prestigious Tilburg Ranking). Students will learn from an international community of world-leading economists who are global research leaders and actively involved in policymaking. We offer three Economics Postgraduate Programmes tailored to meet the different career ambitions of our graduates.

The MSc in Applied Economics provides advanced training in economics with a focus on applications to the problems and policy issues facing today’s society. The course provides ideal preparation for a career as a professional economist working on applying economics to policy issues or business situations.
The MSc in Behavioural Economics provides comprehensive training at the interplay of economics and psychology that allows you to gain the knowledge, skills, and tools to understand human decision-making. These skills will help you stand out in a world where employers seek to better understand individual and collective decision-making.
The MSc Economics and Data Analytics is designed for those who want to gain the in-demand skills needed to succeed in today's data-driven economy. Offered in collaboration with the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics, this program combines knowledge of human behaviour and decision-making from economics with the latest data analytics techniques.
All programmes can be taken on a full-time (one-year) or part-time (two-year) basis, and feature small-group teaching from leading economists and a supportive environment. During the summer trimester, students have the choice of doing a research thesis or an internship. As an MSc student, you are an integral part of our School research community, attending research seminars and receiving a wide range of support to prepare you for the research thesis or summer internship. In addition to studying core modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, you can choose from over 20 field modules including Development Economics, Experiments in Economics, Banking and Financial Stability, Causal Inference & Policy Evaluation or Environmental Economics.

Career opportunities: Ireland's strategic location as a European hub for many large multinationals opens doors to global opportunities. Prominent employers in Dublin include large tech, pharmaceutical and financial services companies. Graduates of our MSc programmes move to jobs in central banks, think-tanks, government departments, regulatory agencies, financial sector institutions and consultancy firms. Many have also gone on to complete PhDs in economics and pursue successful careers as academic or research economists.
Entry Requirements: A primary degree with a minimum of an upper second-class honours or international equivalent in Economics or in a degree in which Economics is a major component. Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Applications are now open and are assessed on a rolling basis with a deadline on the 31st of August 2025.
