The Bank of Albania is pleased to announce the organization of the XX edition of the Economic Research Workshop for Southeast Europe, which will take place in Tirana, on November 24 and 25, 2026.
Over the last two decades, this workshop has become an important forum for discussing innovative research and has fostered the exchange of views among researchers from the Bank of Albania, central banks in the region and beyond, as well as domestic and foreign financial and academic institutions, on issues mainly related to central banking.
The central theme of this edition will be: “Monetary Policy, Financial Stability and Artificial Intelligence in a World of High Uncertainty” . Following our tradition, the workshop is open to interdisciplinary research and welcomes both theoretical and empirical approaches, on topics related to central banking, monetary policy, financial stability, economic development and others related to economics and finance.
The keynote speaker for this event will be: Prof. Harald Uhlig , professor of economics at the University of Chicago..
Suggested topics:
Consistent with its tradition, it welcomes both theoretical and empirical contributions the following topics, including but not limited to:
- Monetary Policy in an Era of Elevated Uncertainty: Inflation persistence, supply side shocks, exchange rates and policy transmission, and central bank communication.
- Artificial Intelligence, Productivity and Economic Growth: Implications for labour markets, innovation, investment and the natural rate of interest.
- Digital Transformation of Finance and Payments: CBDCs, tokenisation, instant payments, stablecoins and the future of monetary systems, including the role of governance, credibility and institutional adaptation.
- Climate Risks, Energy Transition and Macroeconomic Outcomes: Implications for central banks and financial regulators.
- Micro Data, Big Data and New Methods in Economic Analysis: machine learning and AI applications in macroeconomics and finance.
- Household Finance, Financial Inclusion and Economic Well-being: Evidence from surveys, experiments and administrative datasets.
- Economic Forecasting and Risk Assessment: Advances in machine learning, AI and nowcasting techniques for policy analysis.
Authors interested in presenting their research are welcome to submit extended abstracts or, preferably, full paper drafts along with a short bio, to: BoAresearchworkshop@bankofalbania.org. The submission deadline is 1 September 2026. In your submission, please tell us whether you would be willing to act as a discussant of another paper presented in the workshop. Submitted papers will be reviewed by our Selection Committee, which will notify the authors of accepted papers by 15 September 2026.
