School of Economics at UNSW Business School invites PhD students in the field of international trade (JEL-Classification F0 to F2) and industrial organisation (JEL-Classification L0 to L5) to present their work at the 5th PhD Summer Institute (PhDSI5) on 19th of March 2027 in Sydney, Australia.
The PhD Summer Institute (PhDSI) is jointly organised by Onur Koska and Ilke Onur. The first and the third meetings were hosted by Flinders University in Adelaide, AUS, in 2023 and 2025, and University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ, was the host for the second event in 2024. Deakin Business School at Deakin University hosted the last meeting, PhDSI4, in 2026, in Melbourne, Australia. The objective of PhDSI is to provide PhD students of all years in the two fields with a platform for discussing their work with both fellow PhD students and senior scholars. Each student paper will be assigned a senior discussant. Both theoretical and empirical research in international trade and/or industrial organisation is welcome. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2026.
We would like to advise that the PhD Summer Institute will precede the Australasian Trade Workshop (ATW20) that will be hosted also by School of Economics at UNSW Business School, UNSW, Sydney, Australia on 20-21 March 2027. PhD students accepted for presentation at the PhD Summer Institute will be given the opportunity to also attend the ATW20.
There is no registration fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial assistance to participants. Upon acceptance, you will be asked to book your travel and accommodation independently.
